Linus Torvalds used Claude Code to write Linux kernel patches
First reported
ZDNET ran this on , a day before the other 2 sources picked it up.
- Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux, used Claude Code, an AI coding assistant from Anthropic, to write eight experimental kernel patches.
- The patches target slow file reads when many threads read small amounts from the same cached file, and reported eight-thread throughput rising from about 10 million to 30 million reads per second.
- The changes sit on a development branch outside the official kernel, with unresolved memory-reclamation issues and a regression still to address.
