Kubernetes founders launch cloud-based coding agent platform
First reported
Latent Space ran this on .
- Stacklok, a company founded by Kubernetes creators Craig McLuckie and Joe Beda, built Mecatl, a platform that runs coding agents in the cloud instead of on individual computers.
- The platform targets enterprises needing centralized control, security, and the ability to manage coding agents without relying entirely on frontier AI labs like OpenAI or Anthropic.
- Mecatl applies cloud infrastructure lessons from Kubernetes, which standardized how companies run software across distributed servers, to the newer problem of managing AI coding assistants at scale.
Our read
This is the third coding agent or platform launch we have tracked since August 18, after Cursor's Origin and the Ox Alpha model, though only Latent Space covered the Stacklok announcement. The platform applies infrastructure patterns from Kubernetes to the problem of managing AI coding assistants at enterprise scale.
