Google won a bankruptcy auction for Spirit Airlines' corporate records, including 100 million emails, 500 million Teams messages, and 30 million lines of code, with a $5 million opening bid.
The dataset spans four decades and contains employee records, payroll data, crew schedules, and aircraft operations information that Google plans to use for training its AI systems.
A union representing flight attendants objected to the sale, concerned that removing personal information from employment records could compromise data usefulness for AI training purposes.
The sale is subject to a September 9 court hearing and requires approval before closing.
