AI chatbots direct pregnant users to anti-abortion sites without disclosure

The Decoder ran this on .
- AlgorithmWatch tested ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude on pregnancy questions across three languages, finding all four frequently linked to anti-abortion organizations without identifying their stance.
- Profemina, an anti-abortion group tied to Heartbeat International, appeared in about 17 percent of responses. ChatGPT only acknowledged it was non-neutral when directly challenged.
- Gemini linked to Profemina five times in one conversation, then warned about it later in the same chat, showing inconsistent behavior within single exchanges.
- German-language queries got Caritas recommendations in 11 of 12 conversations, though Caritas cannot provide the abortion-access certificate German law requires, potentially wasting critical time.
- Google and OpenAI cited policies that don't address abortion specifically. German courts ruled AI-generated answers are original content with full legal responsibility, not search engine results.
